Understanding Surrogacy: A Path to Parenthood


Surrogacy is an arrangement in which a woman carries and gives birth to a child for another individual or couple, known as the intended parents. For many people facing infertility, medical complications, or social barriers to conception, surrogacy offers a meaningful and hopeful path to parenthood. While the process can be complex, it is rooted in compassion, trust, and the shared desire to create a family.

There are two main types of surrogacy: traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate uses her own egg and is biologically related to the child. In contrast, gestational surrogacy involves the implantation of an embryo created through in vitro fertilization (IVF), using the egg and sperm of the intended parents or donors. Gestational surrogacy is more commonly practiced today because it clearly defines parental roles and reduces legal and emotional complexities.
